A small fire onboard a Boeing 737-800, registration G-RUKN, forced an emergency evacuation of the aircraft, resulting in 18 injuries — six of whom were hospitalized.

Flight RK3446, bound for Manchester, was still taxiing on the runway when the captain reported a “partial engine fire” to air traffic controllers, according to preliminary reports. After informing passengers of the issue, the crew began emergency evacuation procedures.

During the evacuation, some panicked passengers jumped directly from the aircraft’s wings onto the ground. Rescue and emergency teams responded quickly, providing first aid on site.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by airport authorities and the airline.
